My Heart’s Bequest

February is heart month and that is what all the volunteers and employees of the Georgian Triangle Humane Society have in abundance-HEART. They impressed me when I came through their doors to adopt a shelter dog. I knew I needed a large, older dog to become as dear a companion to me as the one I had recently lost. But, in truth, I took the journey from Prince Edward Island in search of the ‘special’ dog to save myself.

The people at the shelter seemed to understand my situation. I was impressed with their interview, application, and referral process. They were intent on getting the right fit. That primary focus and the animal care I observed throughout my interactions with the members of the shelter present at the time, let me know I was in the right place to receive the right dog. My visits to the shelter and subsequent interactions confirmed my belief this was an organization which operated smoothly with commitment, care, and with a loving heart towards human and animal alike. Because of their open-hearted and generous actions, I have my best friend at my side.

By leaving a legacy I hope others will have the opportunity to open their hearts to an animal rescued by the Georgian Triangle Humane Society. My heart’s bequest, then, is given to honour their devotion and the devotion given to me by my canine friends who have shared my walks through life. Thank you.
