The team at the Georgian Triangle Humane Society breathed a little bit easier this week when Holly, the 6 month old German shepherd puppy, was optimistically given a clean bill of health. Holly was found in late December by an animal control officer in Grey County. Emaciated and sick, it was clear that Holly was going to die without comprehensive veterinary support. The local municipality that Holly was found in could not support her care, but the animal control officer, Cheryl Roberts, knew the GTHS would help.
On December 22nd Holly was admitted to the extraordinary team at Bellbrae Animal Hospital who stayed late performing life-saving surgery to remove the foreign object from her intestine. Incredibly weak, Holly stayed at the hospital over the holiday season to rest and recover. Remarkably, Holly survived a second surgery during this stay when her intestine lapsed over itself.
“It is clear that Holly is a fighter. We are so delighted that she was well enough to come to the shelter and we are enjoying her daily licks, snuggles and curious personality. Holly will need a special home as she has suffered some form of trauma in her life. She is incredibly scared of other dogs and shy with people. Once Holly is strong enough to be adopted, we will be appealing to the public for someone with the skills and patience to work through her rehabilitation.” – states Courtney Hancock, Canine Behaviour and Program Coordinator for the Georgian Triangle Humane Society.
The GTHS would like to thank the team at Bellbrae Animal Hospital for going above and beyond to save Holly. In addition, they are grateful for the generous donations that have been received from the community over the holiday season. Holly is just one of 1300 animals that turned to the GTHS for help in 2017. Community support through donations and volunteer time is the foundation of their ability to help these animals in need.
