Vanessa is one of our amazing Treasure Tails volunteers. She works every week at the store greeting and serving customers with a smile, answering questions about the shelter, and keeping the store looking tidy and organized. She also goes beyond that weekly commitment, picking up donations and helping with the Treasure Tails storage locker.
How long have you been volunteering with the GTHS?
I started volunteering at Treasure Tails September 2016.
What keeps you coming back?
The past few decades I have volunteered in many different organizations. I love being in the store interacting with the customers. Every minute is like a new and interesting experience. I also enjoy the many lovely people I work with and for. I have great deal of respect for Maggie and Mary. All the hours and hard work they put into the store. And it shows. I am sincerely so happy to be there– I love it!
What pets do you share your life with?
I have been a mom to many dogs over the years. Up until a few years ago I had three Portuguese Water dogs (all adopted). My final beautiful boy left us last fall. The end of an era!!! We have had many small pets as well. Now the sole pet in this home is a lovely and very entertaining bird. “Noodle” a Green Cheeked Conure from the parrot family. And cheeky he sure is.
Where are you from? When did you move to the area?
Born in Liverpool. Grew up south of here-Caledon. I left Canada in 1995 to live in Atlanta, Georgia. After that I spent three years in Paris, then Boston for seven years. In 2010 I re-located back to Canada with my daughter and son. I am forever thankful I chose Collingwood.
What is your idea of the best day ever?
Waking up and being able to live a great life!!
What’s your favourite pastime (hobby)?
Skiing
Do you have any phobias or fears?
Recently – heights… always snakes
